バイクの模型がいまひとつマイナーな存在である理由の一つにスポークの再現性の問題があると思います。プラスチックにしても金属にしてもキャスト製法では、あの繊細さは表現できませんよね。幸いなことに？最近はキャストホイールのバイクが多いので、メーカーは助かっていることでしょう。ずいぶん出来のいい完成品も低価格で発売されていますので、困ってしまいます。
そんな完成品もやはり、スポークホイールのモデルは、技術が発達したとは言え、ほかの部分に比べ、スポークが…というものが多いですね、エッチングパーツを使っているものもありますが、それもまた問題ありです。やはりスポークは組まなければいけません。スポークを組むのは難しそうで尻込みしてしまう方も多いようですが、やってみると以外と簡単ですので、みなさん是非チャレンジしてみて下さい。
スポークは以外と太く、4mm近くありますので、1/9ですと0.4〜0.5mmくらいの虫ピンを使うのが良いと思います。もちろん車種や、排気量によって違いますし、1/9になったときの見え方も違いますので、この寸法というのはありませんし、スポークも先と根元が同じ太さのプレーンスポークを使用しているとは限らず、根元（ニップルと反対側）が太くなっているバテッドスポークも多く使用されていますので、太い部分で見るか、細い部分で見るかでも違ってきます。バテッド虫ピンなんていうのがあればいいんですが。虫ピンが入手しにくい場合は手芸に使うシルクピンというのが代用できます。ただ、太さが0.5mmで、頭が大きいので、小排気量車には使いにくいと思いますが、値段も安いので、私も時々使っています。
組み方も、色々ありまして、組み方によって、ずいぶんホイールの表情がかわります。
一番簡単なのは、スポーク同士が1か所だけ交差する組み方で、同様に2か所交差するもの、3か所交差するものがあり、交差する数が多い程、丈夫で、柔軟なホイールになるといわれています。逆に少ないと、剛性が高くなり、自転車では全くクロスしないラジアル組というのも使われますが、モーターサイクルではあまり使用されません。ラジアル組の自転車でも、後輪のギア側だけは駆動力がかかるので、クロスした組み方にします。
また自転車の話ですが、剛性を高めるためにクロスした部分を針金で縛ってハンダ付けする方法がありました。（最近はあまりしないみたいです） バイクでも、エンデューロレーサー（オフロードの方）で、クロスしたところを針金やタイラップで縛っているのが見られます。ただこれは、ホイールの剛性を高めるためでは無く、スポークが折れた時に、スポークが暴れて他のパーツを傷つけ無い為と、応急修理しやすいようにということです。

spoke is thought to use the insect pin of about 0.4〜 0.5mm to be good when it is 1/9 because it is thick with others and has about 4mm.

鉄製でカドミウムメッキ仕上げというのが旧いオートバイには一般的だったのですが、公害問題でカドミウムは使用されなくなり、今ではクロメートメッキ（電気亜鉛メッキ）が多いです。
ステンレススポークも イギリスのセントラルホイールなどで、旧いオートバイ用のものも製造されています。
クロムメッキのスポークはアメリカンの人たちにはもてはやされていますが、あまりギラギラしたのは感心しません。
虫ピンや、シルクピンを使用すると クロムメッキのスポークのようにピカピカになってしまうのですが、模型映えを考えると致し方ないですね。
