もう11月になってしまいました。ナナカマドも赤くなりました、ぼんず山も少し赤くなっていますが、まだ6分目の紅葉と行った感じです。すっかり秋の面持ちなのですが、夏の花の代表のヒマワリがまだ咲いていたり、数日前には雪が降ったりと、よくわからない天候ですが、これから、どんどん冬に向かっていくのは確実です。そこで、まだあたたかいうちに、バイクも冬支度することにしました。

So, while it was still warm, it was decided that a motorcycle did preparation for winter, too.

冬支度といっても、クーラントを換えるだけです。ここ室蘭はあまり寒くないので、大丈夫なのですが、冬、冷却水が凍ってしまうと、エンジンが割れてしまうので、念のため寒冷地仕様の冷却水に交換するのです。
そこで、ホームセンターで買ってきたのがこれ、北海道専用の文字も頼もしいクーラント2リットル。緑のと、赤いのがあったのですが、色が変わった方が交換した、という実感が味わえるので、赤をチョイス。-40度でも大丈夫なので、バナナで釘が打てるような寒さでも大丈夫だ。

ラジエーターキャップを開けると緑の液体が入っています。冷却水をレースごとに入れ替えるレーサーでは、純水が使用されますが、最も比熱が高い物質は水だからです。

どぼどぼと新しい冷却水を入れます。それにしてもおいしそうなワインのような色。昔、草レースに出た時、ペットボトルに小分けした冷却水をジュースと間違えて、ぐびぐび飲んだやつがいました。成分はジエチレングリコールというアルコールに近い成分らしい。ワインに添加されてて、問題になった事件があったので、飲めなくはないかもしれませんが、皆さんは間違えて飲まないように気をつけましょう。

本格的に雪が降るのは12月も半ばを過ぎて�からなので、まだバイクに乗る機会は多くあります。カブなんかだと、冬用のタイヤで、走れますが、SDRではかなり厳しいので、雪が積もったら冬ごもりです。バッテリーを外して、タンク内の結露を防ぐため、ガソリンを満タンにしておくのですが、それはもう少し先になります。ちなみに、ガソリンにも水分がわずかに混入していて、その水分が凍ることがあるので、北海道で販売しているガソリンは、水分の少ない寒冷地仕様になっているそうです。冬にバイクで北海道に来る人はあまり居ないと思いますが、車で来る場合は、北海道に来たらすぐに給油して、ガソリンが入れ替わるようにしましょう。
